Nicki Cohen

Counsellor, Supervisor and Mental Health Consultant

About Me

Hi, I’m Nicki and I’m a BACP registered Counsellor and Supervisor, based in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. I am trained to Level 4 as an Integrative Counsellor and to Level 5 as a Trauma Informed Practitioner.

I haven’t always been a counsellor, though it was always in the back of my mind as a potential goal. Having started in youth work and then moving into the political world, I decided in my 30’s that this was what I was supposed to be doing. I have always been good at seeing beyond what people tell me and have great instincts when it comes to people and their needs.

Life is full of ups and downs and everyone needs and deserves a little help at times. It is likely that if you are reading this website, you are ready to take that step to make changes that will make things better.

Beautiful Nature

Counselling

I truly believe that therapy can change your life. I have seen people go from shadows of themselves to much more confident and happy people through therapy and whilst it is not a magic wand, simply having a non-judgmental, confidential, safe space to share and be heard can be utterly transformative.

To me, our therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of the entire process. I pride myself on being warm and empathic, being able to truly listen and hear you and gently work with you to ensure that your therapy journey is meaningful and helpful.

Supervision

I am a warm, empathic supervisor, keen to help you develop your practice and be the best counsellor you can be.

Working as a counsellor can be really challenging and I want to give you a space to reflect and think through any of the difficulties you might be facing in your work. I will support you to work through any of your concerns, be gently challenging where necessary and always ensure you are working within ethical boundaries.

My speciality is in working with adolescents, but I have experience in working with adults and I am confident that I can support you whoever your clients are.

I really look forward to hearing from you and to working alongside you.

Beautiful Nature

Over my 6 years in a secondary school, I counselled individuals, ran group activities, trained staff in issues related to mental health, set up mentor programmes, buddy programmes, celebrated a variety of awareness weeks and took the Wellbeing Department from a team of 2 to a vibrant and dynamic team of 14 practitioners.

If you are looking for someone to help you create / manage your wellbeing provision or to train your staff in all things mental health, please get in touch. I will work with you to provide exactly what you need for your setting and can promise to make it interesting and educational with some humour thrown in!

The Way I Work

I am an Integrative Counsellor.

This means I use a range of modalities to support you, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I see each of my clients as an individual and I tailor the therapy accordingly. I am led entirely by you; the space is yours to do with what you wish and how we work depends entirely on what you need. I will never put you under any pressure to share and will work hard to build your trust as I know how essential this is.

I will listen, I will explore and I will challenge, but all of this will be done sensitively with your wellbeing at the heart of everything I do. My main work in recent years has been with adolescents, but I am equally happy working with adults.
